Kalakkadu Wildlife Sanctuary



Kalakadu Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu and is around 47 km from Tirunelveli. Spread over 223 sq km, the sanctuary lies in the foothills of the Western Ghats.

The vegetation ranges from dry deciduous to tropical wet evergreen forest. Lion tailed macaque, nilgiri langur, bonnet macaque, common langur, nilgiri tahr, sambar deer, sloth bear, gaur, elephant, tiger, flying squirrel, panther, wild dog and pangolin are some of the wildlife seen in the sanctuary. The sanctuary is also inhabited by a wide variety of birds and reptiles. Trekking can be done with prior permission from the Forest Department.

The best time to visit is September to March.
