Spotted Deer



Chital or Spotted Deer, the most beautiful of all deer, is found in forest edges, grassy forest glades, woodland, and shaded streams in moist and dry deciduous forests up to 1000 m. They weigh about 85 kg. Its length can measure up to 90 cm.

Chital’s coat is bright rufous-fawn profusely spotted with white at all ages and all seasons. They form herds of 10 to 30 containing two to three stags. A daily drink is necessary for chital, hence they rest near the water streams.

Spotted Deer breed at any season. Gestation period is 210 to 225 days.
