Shri Thiruppaan Alwar, one of the twelve Alwars, was born in Uraiyur near Srirangam in Tamil Nadu. He is considered as the amsa (reincarnation) of the Srivatsa mark on the chest of Lord Vishnu.
Thiruppaan Alwar’s famous verse ‘Amalan Aadhipiraan’, though a short rhythmic poem, has great philosophic importance. It had inspired three Acharyas to write commentaries on it. Explaining Lord Vishnu’s majestic beauty, from His thiruvadi (foot) to thirumudi (head), Shri Thiruppaan Alwar had sung ten paasurams.
Shri Vallabha Temple in Kerala and Tirukkozhi in Tamil Nadu have shrines dedicated to him.
