Thovalai, a sleepy village situated 12 km from Nagercoil, on the way to Tirunelveli, is one of the largest flower markets of South India. A large variety of flowers of all colors and types are cultivated and marketed here. Windmill farms for power generation add beauty to the floral plantations. The flower market begins at 9 in the morning and continues till dusk. There is a lord Murugan Temple located on the top of the hill. An event named soorasamkaaram is held in every year during the sasti period. Children here get education from Government Higher Secondary School. Also there is an Engineering College at Thovalai.
Nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport, and Nagercoil is the nearest railhead.
