Viswanatha Temple




An ancient Viswanatha Temple is located at Tenkasi in Tirunelveli district. The fame of the temple has earned Tenkasi the status of Varanasi of the South. The temple dates back more than 500 years to the Pandya era, and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Numerous pilgrims visit the temple every year.

The beauty of the temple lies in its monolithic pillars with images and inscriptions. The gopuram especially has been admired over the years for its sculpural excellence.
