Teertham is a Sanskrit word that means water. In the context of Hinduism it is used in the sense of 'holy water'. Every temple will usually have a sacred tank or pool in the premises, which is called teertham. All temple teerthams have special names and the water is used for worship purposes and for the devotees to wash themselves before entering the temple.
