Mettur Dam




One of the largest dams in India, Mettur Dam was constructed in 1934 and is situated in Salem District, Tamil Nadu.

This multi-purpose dam on the Cauvery River has a total length of 1700 m. Irrigation facilities are provided to Salem, Tiruchirapalli and Thanjavur districts.

Set amid picturesque surrounding, the dam and its locale is an ideal weekend getaway. A beautiful park along with the hills surrounding the dam enhances its beauty.

Mettur is around 50 km north-west of Salem. Nearest railhead is at Mettur.
