Ooty Railway Station is at Ooty (Udhagamandalam), one of the major tourist destinations served by the
Southern Railways. It is connected to
Coimbatore and
Chennai. The narrow-gauge train ride to Ooty from
Mettupalayam is the chief attraction of the place. Winding through forests, ravines, tunnels and bridges, the spectacular sights en route amply reward the 5 hr journey.
Both the railway and bus stations are situated near the scenic Ooty Lake. Long distance buses are available from here to Coimbatore, Bangalore, Chennai, Kanyakumari, Thanjavur and Tirupati. The nearest airport to the station is the Coimbatore Airport, 90 km from Ooty.
