Sirkazhi




Sirkazhi or Sirkali is a small town located in Nagapattinam District. It is about 20 km from Maliyaduthurai. This historic and religious town has played an important role in Shaivite history. It is believed that Goddess Parvati gave the milk of knowledge (gnana) to Thirugnana Sambandar at this place. After this, he sang the famous Devaram.

This place is the birth place of Sambandar. Sambandar was blessed with a pair of golden cymbals at Tirukkolakka which is to the west of Sirkazhi. Tirunanipalli is situated south of Sirkazhi where Sambandar’s mother lived. Sambandar attained beatitude at Aachaalpuram, north of Sirkazhi.

Bhramapureeswarar temple, Toniappar temple and Sattainathar temple are the major attractions. Sirkazhi is connected by road from Mayuram. The nearest railhead is Sirkazhi railway station.
