Hill of the Sacred Kite



Tirukkalukundram is a sacred place located about 15 km to the west of Mahabalipuram, Kanchipuram District. It is also known as Paksitirtha. The place derived its name from the words tiru, kaliki and kundram which means sacred, kites and hill respectively.

The place got its importance because of two birds that come here to eat almost every day for hundreds of years. It is believed that Lord Chaitanya has visited this place about 500 years ago.

Vedagiriswarar Temple is situated here. Tirukkalukundram is 60 km south-west of Chennai and 65 km east of Kanchipuram.
