Chengalpattu is located in Kanchipuram District and is an agricultural center. It is 55 km southwest of Chennai.

This place is famous for Ekambareswar Temple. The other interest in and around Chengalpattu are the Mahindra Industrial Park, Atomic Power plant at Kalpakkam and the Ford Car units at Maraimalai Nagar.

The tourist spots around the town are Mahabalipuram, Muttukadu and Chennai.

Chengalpattu Junction Railway Station is a major railhead on the Southern Railway.
