Shri Namm Alwar




Shri Namm Alwar, one of one of the twelve Alwars, was born in Alwar Tirunagari (Thirukkurugoor) in Tamil Nadu. He is regarded as the incarnation of Shri Vishvaksena, the army chief of the Lord Vishnu's eternal attendants.

Namm Alwar’s four works are: Thiruviruttam (contains 100 verses constituting the essence of Rig Veda), Thiruvaasiriyam (contains seven verses constituting the essence of Yajur Veda), Periya Thiruvandadi (contains 87 verses constituting the essence of Atharva Veda) and Thiruvaaimozhi (1102 verses). The latter is termed Shri Bhagavad Vishayam and is regarded as equal to the Sama Veda.
