Lalita Sahastranama

Lalita Sahastranama is a collection of the 1000 names of Goddess Shakti. The names are arranged in a poetic form. Each verse in this grand composition exerts a particular quality of the mother goddess. The recital of these verses is a means of worshipping the goddess.

Lalita Sahastranama is said to have been composed by Hayagriva, a minor incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This composition was taught to Sage Agastya by the lord himself. The verses contained in the composition are a means to uplift the spiritual and material spirits of a person. Although there are several Sahastranama (1000 names) of different deities, the Lalita Sahastranama is distinguished from others by its unique feature of containing distinct names. Further more, there are no additional phonetic elements to give the verses a poetic texture. These distinct names and lack of unwanted words is what sets apart the Lalita Sahastranama from other similar compositions dedicated to other gods.

Recital of the Lalita Sahastranama is helpful for a person seeking the right spiritual knowledge. It clears the mind of the confusion regarding ethics and code of conduct.
