Uttamapalaiyam is a taluk headquarters town situated in the hilly tracts of Theni District, in Tamil Nadu. It is located on the banks of the Suruli River, about 20 km south of the district headquarters, Theni. Madurai is around 95 km north-east.
Vaigai Dam, Suruli Falls, Velli Malai and Kumbakarai Falls are the major tourist destinations. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kodaikanal, Palani and Munnar constitute short excursions from Uttamapalaiyam.
