Kamakshi Amman Temple




Kamakshi Amman Temple, built around the 14th century, falls among the Chola group of temples. It is situated in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.

This beautiful temple is dedicated to the Goddess Parvati, who is disguised as Kamakshi. It is in closer control of the Shankara Mutt.

The main tower above the sanctum is gold plated. There is a golden chariot in this temple, which is taken as a parade around the temple on Friday evenings around 19:00 hrs.

An art gallery with pictures portraying the history of Sri Adi shankaracharya and the Shankara Mutt is located in the temple. A car festival (Ratha Yatra) is held once in a year. This festival is held in the month of February or March.
