Alwarkurichi of Tirunelveli District is about 32 km west of Tirunelveli. Located on the banks of Tamiraparani River, this place is rich in tradition. Earlier it was a densely wooded area and was known as 'Kaderu,' which literally indicates forest boundary.

Kallidaikurichi, dotted with temples, is 14 km away. Manimuthar Dam, Papanasam, Kuttalam and Brahmadesam Village (famed for the Kailasanathar Temple) are other nearby tourist spots. Kadayam (5 km), Alangulam and Viravanallur are surrounding places.

Trivandrum International Airport and Tuticorin Airport are at equal proximity to Alwarkurichi. Alwarkurichi Railway Station is on the Tenkasi - Tirunelveli rail route.
