Located on the banks of the Palar, Virinchipuram is a village famous for Margabandhuswami Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This place in Vellore District is on the outskirts of Vellore, about 11 km away. The place served as the capital of Kampana, the governor of the southern province of the Vijayanagar Empire in the 14th century.

Vellore Fort, Government Museum, Madarazaye Mohammadiya Masjid and Muthu Mandapam (tomb of Vikrama Raja Singha) can be visited in Vellore. Katpadi is 14 km north-east. Pallikondai (11 km west), Kavanur, Anaikattu, Latteri and Usur are nearby.

Katpadi Junction Railway Station and Vellore Cantonment Railway Station serve the area. Nearest international airport is Chennai International Airport and the domestic airport is Tirupati Airport.
