Thirumayam




Thirumayam is a picnic spot, 19 km from Pudukkottai. The main attractions of the place are the fort, and the Shiva and Vishnu temples. The fort, set in 40 acres has great historical importance. It was built by Sethupathi Vijaya Ragunatha Thevar, the Sethupathi of Ramanathapuram in 1687 AD. The rock cut Shiva temple is situated on the hill with music inscription and the relics of a fort. The Vishnu temple is on the foot of the hill and is the largest Anantasayi group in India.

The nearest airport connected with this place is at Trichy which is 50 km away. The place is well connected by road and rail. The nearest railhead is at Pudukkottai. Accommodations are also available at Pudukkottai.
