Chennimalai




Chennimalai is situated between Erode and Coimbatore, about 8 km south of Ingur Railway Station. It is about 25 km south of Erode and 3 km from Perunthurai. Chennimalai belongs to Kongunadu and is well-known for its association with the Tamil Siddhas (Siddhargal). Shrines, mandapams and teerthams (tanks) decorate the hill, each with its unique legend. This hilly area, also known as Sigaragiri, Pushpagiri and Siragiri, is rich in flora and fauna. Chennimalai is also famous for handloom weaving. Chennimalai Subramanya Temple is the major attraction of this place. The temple is on the banks of Noyal River also called the Kanchima Nadhi. Krithika star and new moon days in every month are celebrated here. At the foot of the hill, a festival is celebrated annually at the Kailasanathar temple in the month of Thai. Coimbatore airport is the one nearest to Chennimalai.
