Tirumullaivayil Temple is one of the Shivasthalam, situated at Tirumullaivayil, about 20 km west of Chennai, near Avadi in Tamil Nadu. The temple enshrines a 2000 year old
swayambhu idol of Masilamaniswara (Lord Shiva).
The temple is regarded special to worship Kodiyidai Nayaki (Goddess Parvati), on full moon days.
Other deities worshipped here are Lord Ganesh, Rishabantikadeva, Nataraja and Bhikshatana. Vinayaka (Lord Ganesh) is enshrined with 5 heads and 10 hands. He is called ‘Panchamukha Vinayaka’, (‘Pancha’ means ‘five’ and ‘mukha’ means ‘face’.
The Rajagopuram forms the southern entrance to this temple. The pillars within the temple are of pre-Pallava origin. There are inscriptions from the period of Uttama Chola, speaking of Sembiyan Mahadevi's (10th century) endowments to this temple.
Brahmotsavam, celebrated here in the month of Vaikasi (May-June), is a major draw attended by thousands of devotees from far and near. Vasantha Utsavam, celebrated in the month of Aani (June-July), is another major event.
