Bhogar

One of the Greatest Siddhas of South India

Bhogar, the great Siddha of Tamil Nadu, is said to have lived around 3000 BC. Under the guidance of his gurus, Kalanginaathar and Agasthya, he became a great siddha purusha. Bhogar is linked to the ancient Nath tradition of India through Kalanginaathar.

Bhogar wrote the Saptakanda in which he reveals many medicinal preparations to his disciple, Pullipani.

Bhogar went to China at the instruction of his guru. He is said to have flown in his own aircraft and also taught the Chinese the science of aircraft making. The details are given in the Saptakanda.

There is a belief that Lao Tse was none other than Bhogar himself. Along with similarity in philosophies, this theory is also backed by the emergence of alchemy after the period of Lao Tse in China.

It is said that just before the advent of Kali Yuga, he conferred with other siddhas and decided that Bhakti Yoga was the best solution to combat the darkness of Kali Yuga. Muruga worship was promoted as an ideal means. Bhogar developed the unique method of using Nava Pashanam to install the Muruga idol at Palani .

Bhogar’s Samadhi is to be found in the South West corridor at the Palani Muruga shrine.
