Situated on a conical shaped hill with the backdrop of Mount Kanchenjunga, Tashiding Monastery was built in 1717 by Ngadak Sempa Chempo. It follows the Nyingmapa sect of the Tibetan Buddhism. The stone plates surrounding the monastery are skillfully carved by the master craftsman, Yanchong Lodil.
Tashiding Monastery is famous for Thong Wa-Rang-To, the holy chorten. The sacred water festival, popularly known as Bumchu, is celebrated on the 14th and 15th day of the first Tibetan month. The main annual puja is performed on the 28th and 29th day of the 10th month of the Tibetan calendar.
