Sarus Crane

Sarus Crane (Grus antigone) is the world’s tallest flying bird with about 6 feet in height. The bird’s color is blue-gray except for white wing tips and a band of white around the lower neck. Dark feathers are seen on the nape and neck sides. The beak is relatively short and sharp. The head and upper neck are uncovered displaying the red skin. Legs and feet are pinkish-red in color. Males and females are similar in appearance. Females are slightly smaller than the male. The bird is omnivorous.

Cranes are considered as omens for good crops, especially in India. The bird is widely seen in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Haryana.
