Kalika Mata Temple

Kalika Mata Temple in Chittorgarh was built in the 8th century as a Sun Temple by Bappa Rawal, the founder of the Sisodia dynasty. Later in the 14th century, Maharana Hamir Singh installed a Kalika idol in the sun temple and since came to be known as the Kalika Mata Temple. He worshipped Kalika - the symbol of power and valor - as the patron goddess of Chittorgarh.

The temple architecture is of the early Paramara (Pratihara) period. It is built upon a large raised plinth and features beautiful carvings and sculptures. Thousands of devotees throng here during the yearly fair. Also known as Kali Mata or Devi Mata Temple, this temple is one of the oldest structures in the region. Padmini palace is alongside the temple.
