Chutney




Chutney is a tangy side dish eaten in small amounts to add flavor to the dish. Customarily, Chatni or Chutney is a mixture made on a grinding stone and is consists of a paste of raw ingredients, such as peanuts, cashews, fresh herbs, fresh chilies, ginger, garlic, fresh green mangoes or lime juice, mint, coriander (cilantro) leaves, sour fruits, Indian mango and coconut with other spices. They are served with almost every meal, as relishes with curries and sauces for hot dishes. This relish is often served with idli, dosai, kappa, and appam. They vary in flavor and are incredibly versatile. The different flavors of chutney are chilli chutney, coconut chutney, Madras onion chutney, tomato chutney, Indian Cilantro Chutney and many more. They add an extra dimension to meals and to the most special dishes.
