Achaleswar Mahadev Temple is an ancient shrine located within the premises of Achalgarh Fort, 8 km north of Mount Abu. Built in 1412, it is a well-known pilgrimage site where the foot prints of Lord Shiva are believed to be entrenched on a rock.
The temple enshrines a big idol of Nandi, made of brass, and statues of Goddess Parvati (at the entrance) and Lord Vishnu. The entire structure is decorated with ancient inscriptions that depict the familiar reclining Vishnu and his nine incarnations. A sculpture of Parmar Dharavarsh, and Mandakini Kund with the image of Adi Pal (a Paramar king) and three large stone buffaloes pierced with an arrow are also worth visiting here.
Close to this temple are Kantinath Jain Temple and Jamadagani Ashram. It is said that Jamadagani Ashram is the place, where the Sage Vasishta conducted a Yagna that created the Rajput clan.
Mount Abu, the only hill station in Rajasthan, is 156 km west of Udaipur. Abu Road Railway Station and Mount Abu Central Bus Station are the nearest railhead and the bus station respectively.
