A taluk in Ratnagiri District, Khed is a landlocked and geographically hilly place surrounded on the east by Satara, on the south by Chiplun and on the west by Dapoli. It is very rugged and hilly with a large proportion of rocky and almost barren land. Khed city is a taluk headquarters and a big market place. The important places of interest are Cave house, Mahipatgad, Mahimandangad, and Sumargad.
Khed falls on the Mumbai-Goa Highway.
Khed Railway Station is the major stop on the Konkan Railways.
