Sonar Quila is a fort situated in the Jaisalmer District
. It was built by the Chief Jaisal of the local Bhatti Tribe. The foundation of the fort was laid in 1156. The fort is called Sonar Quila (golden fort) because of the yellow sandstone used for its construction. The architecture of the fort is a combination of the Rajput and Islamic styles. There is a group of Jain temples within the fort, dedicated to Jain gods Rikhabdevji and Sambhavanthji. The temples were built between 12th to 15th centuries. The fort also contains palaces built for rich merchants and nobles.
