Pushkar




Pushkar is a serene town situated at the edge of the Thar Desert, along the banks of Pushkar Lake, in Rajasthan. It is a major Hindu pilgrimage spot in Ajmer District. Pushkar is 11 km north-west of Ajmer.

Hemmed by hills from the three sides and the sand dunes on the other, Pushkar presents a fascinating picture of rural Rajasthan. The town has 52 bathing ghats and many temples; the most celebrated one being that of Lord Brahma.

Other places of tourist interest in and around Pushkar include the Pushkar Lake, Sambhar Lake, Savitri Temple, Pushkar Bazaar and the forts of Kuchaman, Kishangarh and Roopangarh. The annual Pushkar Fair is a major draw, attended by people from far and near.

Pushkar is a religious place and alcohol and non-vegetarian food is strictly prohibited.

Jaipur Airport is the nearest airport. Ajmer Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
