Dungarpur

The city of hills

Nestled in the foothills of the Aravallis, Dungarpur was founded in 1335. It covers an area of 15 sq km and is located in Dungarpur District. The Moran River originates in the southern hills of Dungarpur town, and the rivers Mahi and Som flow through this area. Dungarpur is rich in teak, mahua, mango and Khajur trees. It is also noted for its wildlife varieties. Various migratory birds also visit here during the winters. Dungarpur is 120 km south of Udaipur.

The prominent attraction is the Udai Bilas Palace, in the east of the town, surrounded by hills and enclosed by a small lake. Mahadev temple, Juna Mahal and Rajmata Devendra Kunwar State Museum are other places to visit. The Murla Ganesh fair celebrated during Ganesh Chaturthi draws many pilgrims. Bhuvaneshwar is a nearby attraction.

Best season to visit Dungarpur is from August to March.

Ratlam, 80 km southwest of Dungarpur, is a major railway junction. Maharana Pratap Airport is the nearest airport. Cycle-rickshaw and tongas are the best mode of transport within the town.
