Nagaur




Nagaur is one of the fascinating towns of Rajputs. The town was granted to Raja Amar Singh Rathore by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The city of Nagaur dates back to the 4th century. Formerly known as Ahichhatrapur, Nagaur was the capital of Jangaldesh. It is a desert town of historical significance. Nagaur is a major city of Nagaur district in the Jodhpur Division. The famous Nagaur fort is the best example of Bhumi Durg (land fort) in Rajputana. Royal apartments such as Moti Mahal, Badal Mahal, and Hawa Mahal are there in the fort.

The Dargah of Khwaja Hamiduddin Nagauri known as Sultan-ul-Tarkeen, Amar Singh Rathore Ki Chhatri, Jain Temple in Glass, Saiji ka Tanka, Cenotaph of Amar Singh Rathore, Bansiwala Temple, and Nath Ji ki Chhatri, Barli are some monuments of historical importance. The paintings in the Jain temple portray designs related to the life of Lord Mahavir and Parsvnath. The Nagaur city is the venue of famous Nagaur Cattle Fair. The fair is the second largest in Rajasthan and held every year during the month of Magh (Jan-Feb). This city is accessible by road and rail.
