Punjabi Jutti




Punjabi Jutti is an ethnic footwear originating from Punjab. It is renowned all over the world for its beauty and quality. The word ‘jutti’ is of Urdu origin meaning handcrafted leather footwear. This craft is practiced in the regions of Patiala, Bathinda, Muktsar, Malot, Abohar, Fazilka, Faridkot and Kotakpura.

The leather used for these shoes are processed using vegetable tanning and the use of chemicals is minimal. Once the basic footwear is prepared in the required shape, embroidery is done using gold, silver and multicolored wires. Additional adornment is done with gold wireworks, tiny brass bells, jade beads, tassels and gems.

The embroidery is done by the women, while the men do the cutting, stitching, pasting and other related works involved in the production.
