Faridkot

Faridkot, the capital of the erstwhile princely State of Faridkot, is a historic town in Punjab, noted for its tranquil atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of other cities. It is now the administrative headquarters of Faridkot District. The city, named after the famous Muslim spiritual poet Baba Farid, is 65 km away from India’s border with Pakistan.

Faridkot assumes a lot of political significance with reference to the Indian Independence struggle against the East India Company. It was the focal point of many decisive actions piloted against the British. Jaito, the place which had witnessed the famous 'Jaitu Ka Morcha', is just 30 km away. There are agricultural settlements around the city which are irrigated by two canals running in the outskirts.

Places of tourist interest in the town include an old fort and the tomb of Baba Farid. The city also has some magnificent Victorian structures.

Faridkot is well connected with all major city centers by road and rail. Amritsar International Airport is 110 km away.
