Mandi Gobindgarh, dubbed as the ‘Mini Steel Town of India’, is an industrial township situated 50 km south-west of
Ludhiana,
Punjab. It was founded by Maharaja of Nabha in 1902. The entire township spreads over an area of 15 sq km, on the either side of the
Grand Trunk Road.
Owing to the availability of ample infrastructure and raw materials and its proximity with Ludhiana and Chandigarh, the township has developed into a major industrial center in the state. The town boasts more than 350 steel re-rolling mills, allied units and trade houses and is the biggest market for iron and steel in the Northern India.
Nearest airports are at Ludhiana and Chandigarh. Mandi Gobindgarh Railway Station is linked with Ludhiana, Chandigarh,
Fatehgarh Sahib and Rajpura. By road, Mandi Gobindgarh has connections to
Patiala, Sangrur and Rupnagar and to the nearby states of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.
