Malerkotla




Malerkotla is a prominent town in Sangrur District of Punjab. It lies on the Ludhiana-Sangrur road. Malerkotla is about 43 km south of Ludhiana and 30 km north of Sangrur.

Founded in 1657, it was the capital of the erstwhile princely State of Malerkotla and it had witnessed many battles at the end of the 18th century. Malerkotla was merged with Punjab in 1956.

Malerkotla is famous in the field of agriculture and the vegetables produced here are marketed throughout the state. A large number of small-scale industrial units are functioning here that include the manufacturing units of cycle parts and agricultural implements.

Malerkotla houses numerous monuments featuring the silent history of the ancient Muslim principality. This is an ideal place for shopping beautiful embroidered shoes, insignia and badges.

Malerkotla Railway Station is on the Ludhiana - Dhuri railway line. Nearest airport is Ludhiana Airport.
