Fatehgarh Sahib District



Fatehgarh Sahib District of Punjab is bounded by Ludhiana and Rupnagar in the north, Patiala in the south, and Patiala in the east and Ludhiana in the west. It has an area of about 1,180 sq km. The district got the name from the great Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the youngest son of Guru Gobind Singh.

The climatic condition is extremely hot in summer and cold in winter. The main economy is agriculture. The people are known for their work on handicrafts and handlooms, phulkari (traditional embroidery), lacquer woodwork, furniture, footwear, carpets, jewellery, woolens and blankets.

The important shrines are Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdwara Jyoti Sarup, Gurdwara Baba Natha Singh Ji, Rauza Sharif, Das Nami Akhara, Dera Baba Dyal Puri, and Zoological Park Chhatbir.
