Ambala District




Ambala District lies in the north-eastern edge of Haryana with Ambala City as its headquarters. It occupies an area of 1,569 sq km. The Markanda, Dangri, and Gagghar are the major rivers run through Ambala.

Rajputs, Jats, Sainis, Aroras, Aggarwals, Gujjars, Kanets, Kolis, Brahmins, Chamars and Balmikis are the social groups. The festivals are Dussehra, Diwali, Holi, Janmashtami, Shivratri, Durga Ashtami, Gurparb, Muharram, Christmas and Easter.

Major industries include the production of scientific instruments, metal casting and kitchen mixer grinders. There are many shrines in and around Ambala: Bhawani Amba Temple, Gurdwara Badshahi Bagh Sahib, Sangat Sahib Gurdwara, Lakhi Shah and Taqwal Shah, and Saint Pauls Church. Patel Park, City Park, old British Christian cemetery, and Rang Mahal are some of the places to visit.
