Suryavamsi Dynasty succeeded the Eastern Ganga Dynasty. The rulers belonging to this dynasty ruled most parts of Southeast India. This dynasty was established by King Kapilendra Deva (1435-1468). He was a great ruler, who defended his kingdom and assumed the titles ‘Gajapati Gaudeswar’, ‘Nava Koti Karnata’ and ‘Kalavargeswara’.
King Kapilendra Deva was succeeded by Purusottam Deva, his son, and later by Prataparudra Deva, his grand son. Prataparudra Deva was not strong enough, like his father and grandfather, to defend his kingdom from Muslim invasion. His reign however saw the arrival of many reputed scholars to Orissa.
Suryavamsi Dynasty declined during the reign of Kalua Deva and Kakharua Deva, sons of Prataparudra Deva. They were killed by Govind Bidyadhar, the founder of the
