Ram Lila

Ram Lila depicts the life story of Lord Ram. Dussehra is celebrated as Ram Lila in North India. Ram Lila starts on the first day of Navratri and last for ten days. The story of Lord Ram is divided into ten parts and each part is performed on each day. All the performers in the play are amateurs and are dressed according to their characters.

Sita's swayamvara, Ram's exile, cutting of Saroopnakha's nose by Lakshman, abduction of Sita, Hanuman meeting Sita in Ravana's Ashok Vatika, war between Ram and Ravana, resuscitation of the unconscious Lakshman, Hanuman carrying a mountain on his palm, defeat of Ravana and victory of Ram are the main scenes shown in the play.

On the tenth day, the effigies of Ravana, his brother Kumbkharna and his son Meghnad, made up of paper and bamboo, are stuffed with crackers and burnt.
