Juangs are a primitive tribe mainly inhabiting in the Keonjhar District
. They are classified into Thaniya (who dwell in their original habitation) and Bhagudiya (those who have moved away to other places). They are typically dark brown skin with low wavy hair.
Juangs have their own dialect which has been described by Col Dalten as Kolarian, which have acquired many Oriya words. Most of these people use Oriya as their subsidiary language.
Each village of the Juang has a dormitory known as Majang, where their traditional dance takes place. It is also used as a guest house for the visitors to the village.
Juangs depend mainly on primitive shifting cultivation and collection of minor forest produce. Pusha Purnima, Amba Nuakhia, Akhaya Trutiya, Asarhi, Pirha Puja and Gahma are the main celebrations. All these occasions are marked by singing and dancing, which is accompanied by Changu (a kind of drum).
