Chaitya

A chaitya is any sacred place. In Buddhism, stupas are chaityas and a building containing a stupa (functioning as a shrine) is called a 'chaitya hall.'

Chaitya hall is usually rectangular in shape, with many columns and a semi-circular roof.

Chaitya is a symbol for the Buddhist universe and represents the mind of the Buddha.
