Baragarh




Baragarh, the headquarters of the Baragarh District, is situated on the left bank of the Jira River, on the National Highway 6, in Orissa. Baragarh is 50 km southwest of Sambalpur.

The town is noted for the famous Dhanu Yatra Festival. The main Hirakud canal passes through the town and is known as the Baragarh canal. Kedarnath Temple (36 km), Debrigarh, Bhatli, Barpali, Devdarha, and Gaisima are places of tourist interest in the neighborhood. Balangir, south of Baragarh, is a major tourist spot.

Bhubaneswar is 385 km south-east. Nearest airport is at Raipur (240 km). Baragarh Railway Station is a major railhead of the South Eastern Railways.
