Shangnyu




Shangnyu, ruled by Chief Angh, is one of the prominent villages in Mon District, Nagaland. This small hamlet is noted for a beautiful wooden monument of about 8 ft in height and 12 ft in breadth. Carvings of human beings and other creatures can be sighted in the monuments. This work of art stands testimony to the skills of the Konyak craftsmanship. Legend says that, the monument had been created by angels. Several memorial stones are found in front of the Angh's Palace.

Shangnyu is situated 23 km from Mon. Simaluguri Junction Railway Station in Assam is the nearest railhead.
