Phek District




Phek District is situated in the south-eastern part of Nagaland. It is a hilly district rich in flora and fauna. The district attracts a large number of tourists every year.

Phek is famous for rare birds and several varieties of beautiful orchids. Some of the most colourful species of orchids are found here. Phek is the home of the Chakhesang Tribe, which is different from other Naga tribes in culture and custom. Phek has a good climate - summer is moderately warm and winter is not too cold. Monsoon sets in by the last week of May. Agriculture is the main occupation of the people. Phek is a land rich in culture and festivals. With an area of 2,026 sq km, Phek has a population of 148,246.

The important places in Phek District are the town of Phek, Chazouba, Chizami, Phokhungri, Chietheba, Khezhakenoma and Sakraba. Pfutsero, One of the coldest hill stations in the country, is situated in Phek District, at an altitude of 2,134 m above sea level.
