Black Stork




Black Stork (Ciconia nigra) is a largish wading bird, which is about 100 cm tall and with a wingspan of 180 cm. It resembles the white stork in size. It is complete black except for the white belly and a white spot under the tail. It has red bill and legs. The bird walks slowly and steadily on the ground. The white triangle at the base of the wing is conspicuous on flight.

Black Stork feeds on frogs, reptiles, shellfish and large insects. It builds a stick nest high in trees. Black Stork can be seen in the Corbett National Park, Uttaranchal.
