Ri-Bhoi District




Ri-Bhoi District spans an area of 2,448 sq km and has a population of over 100,000. Nongpoh is the district headquarters. National Highway 44 passes through Ri-Bhoi District.

South-west monsoon and seasonal winds control the humid and hot climate of Ri-Bhoi District. Border areas shared by Assam are hotter than the southern areas. The economy of Ri-Bhoi District is based on sericulture, silk industry, animal husbandry and handloom. Umtrew, Umran and Umiam are the major rivers.
