Tura peak is located on the eastern side of the
Tura, the headquarters of
West Garo Hills District. The peak is 872 m above sea level over looking Tura. It is believed that Tura peak provides a sacred abode for the ‘Gods’. The people claim that Tura was formerly known as Dura and British mistook it for Tura. Tura range is declared as a reserve forest since it constitutes the water catchments areas of the town.
The peak features a tourist bungalow, an observatory, and a cinchona plantation. The visitors can view the lower Brahmaputra Valley and the golden yellow plains of Bangladesh from the peak.
A foot track used by the Deputy Commissioner of Garo Hills during the British rule still exists in the region. It is an advantage for the tourists and adventurers to reach the top with ease and comfort.
