Thadou




Thadou is a scheduled tribe in Manipur, scattered in different districts. Their history is only found in oral traditions such as folklores and folktales. Their origin is believed to be at the source of the Gunn River, also known as the Imphal River. The Thadou people are identified by their dress of traditional black shawl with red stripes. Language is mainly Thadou language and basically they are vegetarian. They are fond of ‘zu’, a drink made from rice or maize. Agriculture is their main occupation. Often the Thadou community crowns some ministerial positions in the State Constitutional Assembly.
