The headquarters of
Imphal East District, Porompat, is located in the eastern part of
Imphal. The climate is salubrious here.
The town, which has no railway station, is entirely connected with good network of roads. Central Dairy Farm of the India Government and Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, also known as State Hospital, are located here.
Jiribam, 200 km west of Imphal, is the nearest railhead.
