Gangte Tribe

Gangte Tribe inhabits the southern part of Churachandpur District, Manipur. The word Gangte means person from Ganggam, but the exact location of this place is not ascertained.

Appeasement of the village deity was an annual feature before they were converted to Christianity. Their traditional cloths include 'Puondum', a shawl put on by men of all ranks. 'Thangsuohpuon', a personifying shawl, indicates its wrapper as of higher status and performer of Chawng rite and 'Puonlaisan' is used both by men and women.

They share folksongs, folktales and dances with other communities like Paite, Zou, Thadou and Vaiphei.
